Connect Cloudflare

Step-by-step guide to connect your Cloudflare account to Domain Pilot

This guide walks you through connecting your Cloudflare account to Domain Pilot so you can manage all your Cloudflare domains from a single dashboard.

You'll need two values from Cloudflare: your Account ID and a custom API Token.

Before You Begin

  • A Cloudflare account with at least one domain
  • Access to the Cloudflare dashboard

Step 1: Start Adding Cloudflare in Domain Pilot

  1. Log in to Domain Pilot
  2. Click Registrars in the sidebar, then click Add Registrar
  3. Select Cloudflare

Keep this open. You'll paste your Account ID and API Token here.

Step 2: Copy Your Account ID

The quickest way is Cloudflare's quick search:

  1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows)

  2. Type account ID

  3. Under Suggested commands, press Enter to copy your account ID

  4. Paste it into Account ID in Domain Pilot

    Search for account ID and select Copy account ID

Or, from your account home, click the three-dot menu (···) next to your account and select Copy account ID.

Step 3: Open API Tokens

  1. Press Cmd+K (or Ctrl+K) again and type API tokens

  2. Select API Tokens. Don't pick Account API Tokens, which is a different page

    Search for API tokens and select API Tokens

Or click your profile icon in the top right, select My Profile, and open the API Tokens tab.

Step 4: Create a Custom Token

  1. Click Create Token

  2. Under Custom token, click Get started

  3. Enter a name, such as "Domain Pilot"

  4. Add these three permissions:

    • Account → Registrar: Domains → Read
    • Zone → DNS → Edit
    • Zone → DNS Settings → Edit

    Read on Registrar: Domains is enough for Domain Pilot. The two DNS permissions let you edit DNS records from Domain Pilot without opening Cloudflare.

  5. Under Account Resources, select Include → your account. If you have more than one Cloudflare account, pick the one that holds these domains

  6. Under Zone Resources, select Include → All zones from an account → the same account. To sync only certain domains, pick Specific zone instead

  7. Scroll to the bottom and click Continue to summary

Step 5: Create and Copy the Token

  1. Review the summary and click Create Token

  2. Click the copy icon to copy the token

Important: The token is only shown once. Copy and save it securely before leaving the page. Copy the API token

Step 6: Connect in Domain Pilot

  1. Back in Domain Pilot, paste the token into API Token
  2. Check that your Account ID is filled in from Step 2
  3. Click Test Connection

Verifying the Connection

Domain Pilot imports your domains as soon as the connection test succeeds and shows how many it found. Click View My Domains to see them on the Domains page.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid Token" Error

  • Ensure you copied the full token without extra spaces
  • Check that you created it under API Tokens, not Account API Tokens
  • Verify the token has not been rolled or deleted in Cloudflare

"Insufficient Permissions" Error

  • The token needs all three permissions: Registrar: Domains → Read, DNS → Edit and DNS Settings → Edit
  • Edit the token in Cloudflare and add any that are missing

Only Some Domains Appearing

  • If you limited Zone Resources to specific zones, only those domains sync
  • Edit the token in Cloudflare and set Zone Resources to All zones from an account
  • If you have several Cloudflare accounts, check that the Account ID and the token's account resources point to the same account
