- What does this domain checker tell me?
- It queries WHOIS/RDAP records for your domain and tells you when the registration expires, how many days are left, and which registrar it is with. It reflects the registry’s current record — it is not a prediction of whether you will renew.
- What happens when a domain registration expires?
- After the expiry date most registrars enter a grace period during which you can still renew, followed by a redemption period that usually costs a premium fee to recover the name. If it lapses past that, the domain is released and anyone can register it — which can mean losing your name, your email, and your site permanently.
- How early should I renew my domain?
- Renew well before the expiry date — weeks, not days — so a failed payment or an expired card does not cost you the domain. Auto-renew helps, but it fails silently when a card expires, so it is worth confirming the renewal actually went through.
- Why couldn’t you determine the expiry date?
- Some registries and registrars restrict or rate-limit WHOIS/RDAP access, and a few TLDs do not publish an expiry date at all. When we cannot read a reliable date we say so plainly rather than guessing — we never show a made-up date. You can confirm the exact date in your registrar’s dashboard.
- Is a WHOIS/RDAP lookup the same as owning the domain?
- No. This lookup only reads the public registration record to find the expiry date and registrar; it does not prove or transfer ownership. Only the account holder at the registrar can renew or manage the domain.
