Connect ChatGPT

Add Domain Pilot as an MCP server in the ChatGPT desktop app or on chatgpt.com

This guide adds Domain Pilot to ChatGPT as an MCP server. The steps are the same in the ChatGPT desktop app and on chatgpt.com.

Before You Begin

  • A Domain Pilot account. Two-factor authentication (Settings → Security in Domain Pilot) is required once your sign-up grace period ends
  • A ChatGPT plan that can add MCP servers: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu. On Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces an admin may need to allow it first

Step 1: Add the Server

  1. Open ChatGPT, click your profile picture and choose Settings
  2. Open Connect. The Plugins page opens
  3. Click Add in the top right and choose Add MCP server
  4. Enter Domain Pilot as the name. The description and icon are optional
  5. Paste https://mcp.domainpilot.io/mcp as the server URL
  6. Leave Authentication set to OAuth
  7. Confirm that you trust the server and click Create

Add MCP server is missing from the menu? Developer mode is off. Turn it on under Settings → Security and sign-in → Developer mode (on some versions under Apps → Advanced settings), accept the warning, then come back to the Add menu.

Step 2: Sign In to Domain Pilot

ChatGPT opens a Domain Pilot page. Allow the popup if your browser blocks it.

  1. Sign in if you are not already signed in
  2. Check that the page names ChatGPT as the app asking for access
  3. Click Approve

You are returned to ChatGPT. Domain Pilot now appears on the Plugins page with its toggle on.

Step 3: Use It in a Chat

  1. Start a new chat. Temporary chats do not carry plugins
  2. Mention Domain Pilot in your request, or pick it from the + menu in the message box
  3. Ask something like "What is the uptime of example.com over the last 7 days?"

ChatGPT shows each tool call and asks you to confirm before it runs. Keep confirming for anything that changes DNS records.

Disconnect

  • In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Connect and turn Domain Pilot off, or remove it
  • In Domain Pilot, go to Settings → MCP and click Disconnect next to ChatGPT. This revokes access even if the plugin is still listed in ChatGPT

Troubleshooting

The sign-in page asks for two-factor authentication. Set it up under Settings → Security in Domain Pilot, then open Domain Pilot on the Plugins page and sign in again.

ChatGPT says the connector is no longer authorised. The connection expires after 30 days without use, or it was disconnected under Settings → MCP. Open Domain Pilot on the Plugins page and sign in again.

Domain Pilot is toggled on but ChatGPT does not use it. Name it in your request. ChatGPT only calls a plugin when it decides the request needs it.
